Proven Technology
Tsunami is an extension
of highly- successful radio platforms such as LYNX.sc
(license-free) and WM-series (licensed) products.
The license-free LYNX.sc
platform, with a
worldwide installed base of over 10,000, is the industry
standard for "instant-link" wireless T1/E1
connections.
Exceptional transmission
performance using spread
spectrum, forward error correction, and advanced RF technology
yield single-link distances exceeding 50 miles.
The WM-series platform is
the industry's smallest full-featured microwave radio
providing advanced fault tolerant technology for critical
applications.
Additionally, a millimeter-wave
platform provides licensed operation up to 40 GHz. This
platform takes advantage of the natural effects at these
frequencies to allow the highest density of network links using
narrow beamwidths thereby maximizing frequency reuse.
Wireless Benefit
Tsunami offers a
comparable or significantly better ROI than fiber or leased
lines.
There are also other benefits,
including the security and peace-of-mind arising from the users
being in control of their own infrastructure, as well as
improved reliability and flexibility over a leased line
connection.
Tsunami fills a unique gap between
very high bandwidth SONET-over-fiber or microwave and low
bandwidth wireless LANs. The user can substantially extend the
distance for LAN connections, exceeding 50 miles with some
models, with no trade-off between distance and bandwidth
required.
License-Free
The license-free models
enable any user to easily install and operate wireless links
with no regulatory barriers or spectrum ownership issues.
This capability provides a fast
and economical communication solution
Applications
Tsunami
sets the standard for service providers looking to extend their
networks with wireless links, eliminating the "last
mile" access problems for datacom systems.
Western
Multiplex' Tsunami family of products will help users, who
already have wireless access for voice services, enter the data
services market with a long distance access and transport
solution. Similarly, data users that currently depend on access
to service providers through wireline (fiber or copper)
networks, now have a reliable wireless alternative.
Intelligent Connections
All Tsunami wireless bridges implement "smart"
bridging that is self-learning. This feature reduces the
unnecessary use of bandwidth through the bridge, virtually
eliminating "flooding."
These bridges are transparent to
the network, with performance as good or better than fiber or
wire.
