The LAN/WAN boundary is a severe
congestion point in today’s IP networks. The
disparity between available WAN bandwidth and network
loading on the LAN causes most end-to-end quality
degradation to be concentrated at the access point
between these networks. End-to-end quality for VoIP and
video conferencing over IP is a game that is won or lost
at these choke points. Best of class QoS, such as U4EA’s
GoS (Guarantee of Service), is needed in the Business
Gateway to ensure that mission-critical real-time
applications function reliably and with high quality.
While both voice and video are sensitive to delay, they
have differing packet loss and bandwidth needs. Running
these applications together over a converged IP network,
therefore, requires a new approach to
application prioritization. The future-proof nature of
U4EA’s GoS, with multiple quality classes, guarantees
the best voice, video, and data convergence and
delivery. Traditional QoS mechanisms are not well
designed for convergence and fail as they can only
prioritize a single application over the rest of the
network traffic. GoS goes beyond simple prioritization,
simultaneously controlling both loss and delay
requirements ensuring QoS for every application.
GoSTM Highlights
-
Automatically detects and
correctly prioritizes VoIP and Video traffic
-
Delivers an advanced packet
scheduling mechanism designed for convergence
-
Provides true Quality of Service
for multi-media applications
-
Delivers efficient utilization of
bandwidth (unlike other approaches, GoS fills 100% of
the link while enforcing QoS)
-
Ensures real-time traffic without
requiring over-provisioning
-
Guarantees application
performance, even under network saturation
-
Provides easy configuration (no
complicated guesswork to find the right configuration)
-
Ensures reliable carrier-class
voice
