-- Multiplexes/demultiplexes 28 DS1s to/from 28 VT1.5s of an STS-1 within an STS-3

-- DS1s are packetized into psuedowires and transmitted over an optical Gigabit Ethernet interface

-Auto In-Service Timer (AINS)
-Ethernet II type encapsulation
-Fiber LOS and Laser Fault Detection
-Transmit/Receive Frame Length Monitor
-FCS (Frame Check Sequence) Monitor
-Provisionable packet size and jitter buffer
-IPv4 encapsulation
-Complies with GR-499, GR-253, T1.403, and IETF draft standard SAToP
-Centrally managed by the System Controller Module (SCM; P/N 1184500L1)

The PWE3M module requires: System Release 4.1 or later, and one of the following Small Form Factor Pluggables (SFP):
- SFPGS 1184561P1 1000Base-LX, 1310 nm, single-mode
- SFPGM 1184561P3 1000Base-SX, 850 nm, multi-mode
