TFR-Token Ring Fiber Optic
Repeater |
|
| |
- TFR is a Token Ring
fiber optic Repeater for extending the distance
between TAUs (Trunk Access Units) up to 3 km (1.9
miles). If repeaters are not used, the maximum
operating distance between TAUs is limited to
approximately 100m (330 ft) at 16 Mbps.
- TFR is available in a
4/16 Mbps, switchable model.
- Special circuitry
enables the TFR to locate faults and automatically
partition the ring in case of cable failure.
Reclocking, reshaping and regeneration is performed
on the data flowing in the main or backup ring.
- TFRs operate in pairs,
with one module connected to the RO (Ring Out) port
of the first TAU, and the other to the RI (Ring In)
port of the second TAU.
- The use of fiber optic
media provides immunity to electromagnetic
interference and noise, and ensures security to
exposed ring segments through optical isolation of
the signal.
- TFR is supplied as a
stand-alone unit or as a card for installation in a
TAU. The stand-alone unit has an integral power
supply and can be mounted on a wall using the TR-WM
brackets, or in a 19" rack, using the TR-RM
shelf that supports up to 4 repeaters. The card
version is powered from an external DC adapter (see
Ordering).
- The stand-alone unit
can be optionally ordered with RADview SNMP Network
Management. RADview support for the card version is
provided when used together with the TMA-IB (In-Band
Token Ring Management Agent) unit. A management
option is available. (see Ordering).
- TFR is available with
multimode or single mode fiber interface, and UTP or
STP copper interface (see Ordering). The UTP option
includes an internal media filter (available in 16
Mbps version only).
