System Modules
- The Common Logic
module stores configuration and event information,
and communicates (via a SLIP/PPP connection) with
the management station by means of an SNMP agent.
Flash EPROM for software download, TELNET and ASCII
terminal are also supported.
Main Link Modules
- E1 (with or without
LTU), T1 (with or without CSU/DSU) or hybrid main
link modules support a wide range of access media
(copper, coaxial and fiber optic).
- Hybrid main link
allows flexible configuration by enabling timeslots
to be defined as either Frame Relay or TDM.
- The main link modules
can be configured for single non-redundant
operation, or for dual link operation supporting
either drop & insert, redundancy or load
sharing. Up to 62 timeslots can be supported over
two links.
- Four timing options
are available:
- Link receive clock
- Internal crystal oscillator channel
- Clock from any high-speed HS-2 or HS-4 module
- Station clock (MP-2100B/F only) Any clock source
can be set as fallback in the event of primary clock
source failure.
I/O Modules
- Up to 11 I/O modules
can be placed in a Megaplex-2100 chassis (four in
the Megaplex-2104).
- Where more than 11 I/O
modules are required, two Megaplex-2100 units can be
cascaded.
Types of I/O
Modules
- High speed data
modules
TDM Modules
High Speed Data
Modules
- High-speed synchronous
data interface modules, operating at multiples of 56
kbps and 64 kbps, up to 2.048 Mbps. Various modules
support ISDN BRI interfaces for ISDN extension over
non-ISDN facilities and IDSL technology for
"last mile" applications.
Low Speed Data
Modules
- Sub-rate multiplexer
modules for low speed (1.2 to 19.2 kbps) synchronous
and asynchronous data channels. Various modules
support standard X.50, DS0-A, DS0-B, built-in
tail-end modems, V.110 rate adaptation. Efficient
sub-rate multiplexing technique (compatible with
Kilomux-2000) is also supported.
Voice/Fax Modules
- Multiple voice channel
interface modules, that can directly connect to
analog lines for direct telephone connection, PABX
extension connection or 2/4-wire, E&M
connection. Alternatively digital interfaces for E1
and T1 are also supported. Voice/fax modules support
PCM, ADPCM and high quality MPMLQ (ITU - G.723)
compression algorithms.
LAN Modules
- Ethernet router and
Token Ring internetworking modules, compatible with
the LAN RANger remote access family or other
vendors' routers/bridges.
Frame Relay Modules
Low Speed Data
Modules
- Supporting up to six
sync/async data channels. Selectable data rates from
0.3 to 64 kbps. Support protocols HDLC/SDLC, async,
Transparent, Frame Relay, Cell Relay, Frame Relay +.
High Speed Data
Modules
- Supporting up to three
sync data channels. Selectable data rates from 32 to
384 kbps. Support protocols HDLC/SDLC, Frame Relay,
Cell Relay, Frame Relay +.
Voice/Fax Modules
- Low bit rate
compressed voice/fax digitizer supporting up to four
analog voice/fax channels. Uses MPMLQ-based voice
compression to ensure high voice quality.
Management
- The Megaplex-2100 can
be managed by a UNIX-based or PC-based SNMP
management system. The software is user friendly,
GUI based and runs under PC/Windows (RADview-PC/WAN)
or HP-Openview UNIX (RADview-HPOV/WAN) systems. In
addition, configuration and monitoring is provided
via TELNET or a dumb terminal.
- Network management
provides centralized control of all network nodes,
including interfaces configuration, connection
setup, alarm and management.
- All parameters are
user programmable for up to 10 independent
configurations (databases). All configurations are
saved in non-volatile memory.
- Alarm status and
system configurations are available at all times.
Multiple Megaplex-2100 chassis can be controlled
from a single PC or UNIX workstation.
- Programming and set-up
of a remote Megaplex-2100 is accomplished either:
- Via timeslot 0
- Through the supervisory port of the remote unit,
over a modem link or over a FRAD
- Over a full in-band dedicated timeslot, supporting
PPP and RIP2 standard protocols.
Diagnostics
- Megaplex-2100
incorporates test features for rapid fault detection
and easy maintenance. Upon power-up, all system and
I/O modules undergo self testing. All problems are
reported to the management system. Local and remote
loops may be performed on each channel and on the
main links.
- An internal test
pattern generator available on some I/O modules
allows on-line testing of individual channels
without using external test equipment.
Alarms
- Alarm information is
stored in the common logic module. Alarms are
automatically read by the management system from any
node. Up to 256 alarms can be stored in a queue and
up to 1024 alarms can be stored in a file on the PC,
to be read by the management system.
Megaplex-2100 is
comprised of a Basic Unit (chassis, main link and common
logic modules, power supply and cables) and I/O modules.
When ordering, specify the basic unit required, plus all
I/O modules (see individual main link and I/O module
data sheets).
Note: for
non-standard requirements, the basic unit can be ordered
without a main link module by simply omitting the link
interface field (e.g. MP-2100/230). The main link module
should then be ordered separately.
