Definition of Limited Distance Modems

Limited Distance Modems:

These devices are used for extending the distance of electrical signals such as RS-232, V.35, X.21, RS-530, G.703, T1, T3, STS-1 and E1 over twisted pair, coax and fiber cable. An example would be a personal computer located 1000 feet from a host computer, the distance would be far out of specification for most standard interfaces over cable, but with a limited distance modem on each side, they will communicate as though it were 3 feet away.
