| The N+1 Protection Switch
adds additional system alarming, additional system
cooling and redundant circuit protection to the DNX-11
system. The advanced features and flexibility of the N+1
Protection Switch will allow the DNX-11 to provide
redundancy to the Octal T1/E1 (narrowband) and T3, STS-1
and the Hybrid DS-3 (broadband) cards. This will supply
the user with a backup system in the event that one of
these cards becomes non-operational. With the redundant
system in place, the non-operational cards are switched
to the backup cards with minimum downtime and without
user intervention.
The 3RU high modular
design of the Protection Switch provides a smooth
one-unit look when stacked on the DNX-11. The Protection
Switch has two (2) redundant and nine (9) primary slots,
one common logic controller slot and two (2) 48 VDC
power supply slots. All of the redundant and primary
cards are hot pluggable (including power supply). The
Controller interfaces between the N+1 Protection Switch
and the DNX-11 System Manager Controller (SMC) II
module. It is required to use SMC IIs with the N+1
Protection Switch and recommended that redundant SMC IIs
be used.
The integral auto-sensing
fan assembly provides the additional system cooling.
This three-speed cooling system automatically senses the
temperature and will change fan speeds accordingly. The
automatic speed change (auto sensing temperature) can
also be controlled via the menu screen to the Low,
Medium, or High setting which ranges from 85º to 122ºF.
There is also an auto alarm notification when the fan
speeds slow down.
Capabilities and
Features: The N+1
Protection Switch provides the user with automatic N by
Narrowband and Broadband card protection. This automatic
detection provides immediate backup for a problem module
by switching the connections to a standby module,
eliminating long down time and the need for immediate
feet on the street. The standby module assumes all of
the cross connections and maps of the deficient module
at the time of switchover. The user is aware of the
switchover by may different methods: front LED
indicators on the modules, the alarm LED's on the System
Manager Card (SMC) II, the auto alarm indicators, or the
node summary screen which is available via telnet, or
terminal connection.
